Because all Halton Insurance advisers are independent, we work for you, not the insurance companies or banks.
Why do you need Independent Advice?
There are tens of thousands of different insurance, pension, mortgage and investment products in the UK .
Independent Financial Advisers (or ‘IFA's') are able to select the best financial product for their customers from the entire market, which means we can choose between any insurance, pension or investment company, and find the best plan or contract to suit your needs and objectives. With such a wide choice of companies, products and contracts available to us, you will never simply be provided with a standard recommendation – but receive bespoke, personalised advice.
How do you know the adviser you're dealing with is independent?
When you go into your high street bank, building society or estate agent you may be invited to see their financial adviser, but beware! Some financial advisers are ‘tied agents', and they are only able to recommend and promote the products of the bank or insurance company that they work for. Some other advisers are only able to recommend products from a very narrow range of companies, associated with or even owned by the companies they represent. In other words, unless an adviser is truly independent they will not be able to offer you genuinely independent advice.
Regulation
Whether they're ‘Tied' or Independent, all financial advisers must be authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the government watchdog that regulates all financial and insurance firms. The FSA sets the standards for the whole industry, from the largest multinational bank, to the lone financial adviser, working from a spare bedroom in his home. The FSA handbook contains many thousands of laws, rules and guidance notes, to which all advisers must adhere, and decides the way that all customers must be treated.

Paperwork
It is unfortunate that the financial services industry involves a lot of paperwork, but we do try to keep this to a reasonable minimum. The paperwork we provide is intended to protect you, not confuse you, - we always provide all the information and explanations you require, but we will not ‘blind you with science'.
Under FSA rules, all authorised advisers in the UK have to provide their customers with two important documents:
‘Key Facts About Our Services' tells you about the individual's or the firm's activities, whether they offer advice from the whole market, from just a range of companies, or from just a single bank or insurance company. This document also includes information about the firm being registered with the FSA, and how to make a complaint, should you be dissatisfied.
Each firm will also have their own 'Terms of Business' in addition to the Key Facts. This includes more specific information about the firm.
You can ask to see these documents at any time, or use the 'Contact Us' page to view our documents now.
